Suffering low back pain? Well you are not alone. As much as 90% of the population suffer low back pain at some stage of their life, with the likelihood of recurrence high if not addressed professionally. Whilst some pains will come and go, persistent pain requires attention to assist in reducing symptoms and preventing chronicity. Common symptoms of low back pain that we see clients for include:
- Centrally located or one-sided low back pain
- Stiffness
- Pain radiating into one or both legs
- Nerve symptoms into lower legs including pins and needles or numbness
- Pain when lifting, twisting, coughing, sneezing, post-sitting, getting out of bed/car
As a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, Drew has undertaken Masters’ Degree level training to assist in delivering optimum diagnosis and treatment of specific musculoskeletal conditions. This has been maintained with regular professional teaching at both under and postgraduate levels consistently.
Essentially our approach is a 4 step way of dealing with your pain:
1. Assessment
2. Treatment
3. Re-Assessment
4. Plan
Before any action is taken, your physiotherapist will thoroughly assess your condition, diagnose the problem, and help you understand what’s wrong. The physio will work with you to develop a treatment plan that takes into account your lifestyle, leisure activities, and general health. This will include advice on how you can help yourself; for example, you may be shown exercises and relieving self-management techniques that you can do between treatment sessions. Where appropriate, physiotherapists also advise carers how they can help.
